Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS) Licensed Marketers

The American Petroleum Institute (API) works to ensure that consumers receive quality motor oil. API accomplishes this through two programs: one focused on the product itself and one on the process of bringing motor oil to consumers.

The first program, the Engine Oil Licensing and Certification System (EOLCS), ensures that motor oil marketers are producing high-quality motor oil that meets API standards.

The second program, Motor Oil Matters, is focused on maintaining the chain of custody of oil dispensed from tanks—ensuring that consumers always receive high-quality product meeting API performance standards.
